My mother-in-law sent me a cookbook that belonged to her mother. She had asked me if I wanted it and I said no. She sent it anyway. I’m glad she did. While I do not have much interest in old fashioned recipes, I do enjoy old fashioned home economics. The books holds all sorts of kitchen folk wisdom as well as very precise ways to calculate your family’s food budget. For fun, I updated their figures using an inflation calculator and found that food was almost double the cost it is now. We are very fortunate.
Sometimes you need to have pancakes for dinner. I have a whole set of cast iron frying pans that I use almost exclusively. They belonged to my great grandmother and I am sure they will last forever.
Someone else was cooking in the kitchen as well. He makes excellent blueberry soup.
