Quite uncharacteristically, spring seems to be in the air. Where I live it is usually cold and snowing into April with the occasional late May snow fall. Tomorrow is forecasted to be in the 50s and we spent an afternoon at the lake this past week. Granted, there was still a good amount of ice on the shore, but the weather was warm and it was lovely to breathe in the hint of spring thaw.
I’m having trouble naming my paintings. Or rather, I’m resistant to naming my paintings. Somehow I feel that by naming them I am creating boundaries or assumptions about their content. The painting below, which I’ve shared before, was named “Crow and Bear” by my eldest child.
I haven’t a clue why he named it that, but I love the image my painting conjured in his mind. I’ve thought perhaps about naming the paintings after the time in which I painted them. I named this one Dark Moon 1 since I painted it on this month’s dark moon.
This painting was just a study. It’s done mono-chromatically and was a study in value. I think I’d better stick to landscapes and skyscapes!
